Prayers of sorrow
A prayer of sorrow (also known as 'act of contrition' in the sacrament of penance) is a prayer saying sorry to God for something such as sinning. You are apologising and confessing/taking responsibility for the sins you have committed.
Here are three prayers of sorrow, written by me, that could be used in the Sacrament of Penance, or in general everyday prayer to God.
I am sorry God for not loving you,
for saying things that were not true.
For being unkind and calling names,
for not letting others join in my games.
I am sorry God for not loving you.
Merciful God, forgive me for my sins,
and help me rise about temptation.
Be my refuge and strength in times of need,
and lift me from the darkness of sin into the peace and joy of your presence.
Father, I am guilty of sin.
I confess my sins to you and ask humbly for forgiveness.
Lord, I trust that you will forgive me for my sins,
and cleanse me from the impurity of sin
so I may grow closer to you.
